Rwanda Health Informatics Alliance
The Rwanda Health Informatics Association (RHIA) is a professional, non-governmental organization established in 2023 and formally approved by the Rwanda Governance Board in 2025. RHIA serves as Rwanda’s national association for health informatics, bringing together over 100 members from diverse professional backgrounds.
RHIA is a member of the Pan African Health Informatics Association (HELINA) and actively contributes to the Digital Health Technical Working Group in Rwanda. The Association collaborates with government institutions, academia, development partners, and the private sector to advance digital health and strengthen health systems.
Currently, RHIA is partnering with the ICT Chamber to establish the HealthTech Trust SIL, further reinforcing its role in shaping Rwanda’s digital health ecosystem.
Since its establishment, RHIA has led several strategic initiatives, including:
- Establishment of the National Health Data Governance Technical Working Group.
- Pilot of the Health Data Governance Model Law in Rwanda.
- Launch of the Standards and Interoperability Lab (SIL) in Kigali.
- Capacity building through HL7-FHIR training for government and private sector experts.
- Creation of the Rwanda HealthTech Community.
- Training programs on digital health leadership.
- Support to the Government of Rwanda in maintaining community electronic health records.
