Health Data Governance (HDG)
The HDG initiative aims to strengthen governance frameworks to ensure ethical, equitable, and effective use of health data. HELINA partners with Governments, regional entities like the African Union, the East African Community, and Stakeholders to develop policies and frameworks that safeguard health data sovereignty while enabling its use for better healthcare outcomes. HDG promotes collaboration, advocacy, and capacity building to establish a robust ecosystem for health data governance across Africa
Effective health data governance is a cornerstone of achieving UHC, as it ensures that data is managed responsibly and transparently, building trust among citizens, governments, and implementers. By creating clear policies and frameworks, HDG facilitates the use of data to identify gaps, target underserved populations, and optimise resource allocation. The initiative also supports the interoperability of health systems, enabling seamless data sharing across regions, which improves service delivery and public health responses. By fostering accountability and inclusivity, HDG empowers health systems to make data-driven decisions that address inequalities and improve access to quality healthcare for all, making digital health a reliable driver of UHC.
