What we Do

The Medical Informatics Association of Malawi (MIAM) aims to provide an organizational framework through which individuals currently working in healthcare-related information technology roles can advance their skills and share their knowledge with others. The main goal is to contribute to the improvement of healthcare provision in Malawi through the application of medical informatics principles.

Focus Areas

  • To increase awareness and promote medical informatics as a means of improving patient care in Malawi.
  • To share examples of systems that have worked successfully in sub-Saharan Africa and also systems that have failed, so that other parties can learn from the mistakes of others.
  • To share tools that have been developed (both hardware and software, a repository of software such as LINUX, MySQL).
  • To create a ‘virtual community’ of people who work in healthcare and are interested in medical informatics.
