Prof. Cheick Oumar Bagayoko

Prof. Cheick Oumar Bagayoko is currently Head of the « Centre d’Innovation et de Santé Digitale » at « Université des Sciences, Techniques et Technologies de Bamako ».
He obtained his doctorate in medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Bamako in 2002. Interested by the use of Information and Communication Technologies since the first years of medical studies, he strengthens his skills in the field and successively obtained a Certificate of Continuing Education in Medical Informatics at the University of Geneva, a master’s degree in Biomedical and Health Informatics at the University of Paris V, a master’s degree in Expertise and Engineering of Health Information Systems and a PhD in Medical Informatics at the University of Aix Marseille II University. He has solid experience in the elaboration of e-health strategies, development of adapted tools for Africa, piloting, the implementation and the evaluation of e-health projects notably through several missions of expertise carried out in Mali, in Africa and around the world and his role as General Coordinator of the ” Réseau en Afrique en Francophone pour la Télémédecine”. This network was funded by the Geneva Internation Solidarity Fund trough Geneva University Hospitals wher Prof. Bagayoko worked for 12 years in the e-health and telemedicine department.
Through competitive research grants, he has conducted medico-economic impact studies of e-health and its effects on the recruitment and retention of health personnel in more health districts of Mali.
He was the Principal Investigator of AFRICA BUILD project funded by the UE and whose goal to a Reasearch and Education Infrastructure for Africa.
Prof. Bagayoko is full member of the Malian Academy of Sciences. He’s author of several scientific publications and has obtained several scientific and honorary distinctions including, the Swiss Govertment postdoctoral Excellence Fellowship, the Mali National Medal of Merit, the RFI App Challenges Africa Award.
